FILMMAKER/PRODUCER/PERSONALITY PROFILE
________________________________________________________________________________________GAYLE KIRSCHENBAUM is an Emmy awarding winning filmmaker. She is the creator and star of the documentary MY NOSE, a film festival favorite playing worldwide which won the "Ellie award" for Best film at the Jewish Women Film Festival. MY NOSE is based on Gayle's experience with her mother, who insisted that she get a nose job since she was 15. Gayle and her mother visit various plastic surgeons in a hilarious adventure where the only augmentation is the personal relationship between mother and daughter. Gayle is also the creator and costar (together with Chelsea, her Shih Tzu "dog-ter") of the critically praised film, A DOG'S LIFE: A DOGAMENTARY which premiered on HBO and has been featured all over the media. A wacky, poignant documentary about the positive effects of the bond between dogs and humans, A DOG'S LIFE follows Gayle and Chelsea, rigged with a "doggie cam," through the streets of New York City as they go looking for love. Then 9/11 happens. Chelsea emerges as a healing force as a therapy dog and is crowned New Yorker of the Week when she brings her first person out of a coma. Gayle produced, directed and edited the dogamentary.
Kirschenbaum most recently created the television show LITTLE PARENTS, BIG PREGNANCY which premiered on Discovery Health, June 2009 and was picked up by TLC. She developed THE LITTLE KINGS another realtiy show about a dwarf couple which is production for Discovery Health. Gayle co-created a pilot for a new series called JUDGEMENT DAY: SHOULD THE GUILTY GO FREE which aired on HBO's American Undercover.
Kirschenbaum Productions is currently in development and production on several projects including MY NOSE: THE BIGGER VERSION, several television series including BODY PARTS, MELTING POT and MEDICINE DOGS. LOOK WHO'S TICKING, a feature film script written by Gayle was a winner of the AIVF Screenwriters Mentorship program and currently is in development.
Gayle has been featured in media including The New York Times, NBC's Today Show, CBS's Early Show, Fox TV, Oxygen TV, the Ladies Home Journal, Washington Post, O Magazine, Howard Stern, CBC Radio, and BBC radio.
Kirschenbaum is a communicator who is driven to create in all mediums. Realizing the power of her work both behind the camera and in front of it, she is now a launching a unique seminar, THE JOURNEY OF MY NOSE, LEARNING TO ACCEPT AND LOVE A CRITICAL PARENT.
GAYLE KIRSCHENBAUM began her creative life as an visual artist, drawing since a young child. She turned her attention to photograhy and soon started her professional career as a freelance graphic designer. In less than a year, she became a producer/director of award winning multimedia shows both here and abroad. Soon afterwards, she formed her own company, Kirschenbaum Productions, producing television national commercials for such clients as Pepsi, General Foods, Pampers, Coleco and Mattel.
Combining her talents as a writer, producer and director, Gayle gravitated towards documentary filmmaking and left her beloved home city of New York and moved to Los Angeles. She directed her first film on homeless women and children, HESTIA HOUSE, which garnered an award at the Chicago Film Festival. Her second film, which she wrote, produced and directed for PBS entitled DOUMENI HOUSE, won an Emmy Award. Her third documentary, the intimate portrayal of a woman novelist, OCTAVIA BUTLER, earned an Emmy nomination. From then on she was producing non-fiction programming including long and short form. Some of her credits in television include Arts & Entertainment's ANCIENT MYSTERIES, and MYSTERIES OF THE BIBLE, Lifetime Television's INTIMATE PORTRAIT and NEW ATTITUDES series, COURT TV, the FOOD NETWORK, the ROSIE O'DONNELL SHOW, AMERICA'S MOST WANTED. Her producing credits include reality shows for NBC, CBS, TLC and DISCOVERY CHANNEL.
Gayle is a published author. Her essays and stories have appeared in magazines, newspapers, literary journals and on the internet. She was a founding board member of Bon Ami Foundation, founder of NY writer's group, member of Docuclub, Cinewomen, IFP, WIP (Women in Production), WIP (Women in Publishing) and Delta Society.
